The D7 is for people with stable passive income (pensions, rental income, investments). The D8 is specifically for remote workers and digital nomads who earn income from outside Portugal. Both require proof of sufficient income (much higher for the digital nomad visa) and accommodation in Portugal.
-
Yes, we specialize in the Digital Nomad Visa (D8 Visa). This pathway is designed for remote workers and freelancers who earn income from sources outside of Portugal. We assist you in compiling the necessary financial evidence—such as employment contracts, bank statements proving you meet the minimum monthly income threshold, and tax declarations—ensuring a smooth application process at the Portuguese consulate in your country.
-
The Portuguese government sets minimum income thresholds based on the Portuguese minimum wage. As a general guideline, the current requirements are approximately:
— Main applicant: €920 per month (100% of minimum wage) — Spouse or partner: €460 per month (an additional 50%) — Each dependent child: €276 per month (an additional 30%)
Accepted income sources include pensions, rental income, dividends, interest, royalties, and other passive income streams.
These figures are subject to change and individual consulates may apply slightly different standards. Once we start working together, we assess your specific income situation and advise on the strongest way to present your financials in your application.

The D7 visa is the entry visa issued by a Portuguese consulate in your home country. It allows you to enter Portugal and is typically valid for 4 months ( two entries allowed). Once in Portugal, you must apply for a D7 residency permit (Autorização de Residência) through AIMA — the Portuguese immigration authority. The residency permit is what allows you to live in Portugal long-term, and is initially issued for 2 years, renewable for subsequent 3-year periods. After 5 years of legal residency, you may apply for permanent residency. Once we start working together, we guide you through both the visa and the subsequent residency permit process.
-
The short answer is currently Yes. Once you obtain your residence permit, you will have the authorization to work in Portugal.
-
Yes. Proof of accommodation in Portugal is a mandatory requirement for the D7 visa. This is typically satisfied with a signed rental agreement (contrato de arrendamento) registered with the Portuguese Tax Authority (Autoridade Tributária). The contract must cover at least an initial period of one-year in most cases.
If you do not yet have a rental agreement, our Housing & Lease Management service can help you secure one before your visa application — ensuring your accommodation document meets exactly what the consulate requires. Consulates also accept a property deed if you own a home in Portugal.
We strongly recommend having your rental agreement in place before submitting your D7 application, as missing or incomplete accommodation proof is one of the most common reasons for delays and rejections.
-
Generally no. Portuguese consulates typically require a long-term rental agreement (minimum 12 months) registered with the Portuguese Tax Authority. Short-term rentals, Airbnb bookings, and hotel reservations are usually not accepted as proof of accommodation for the D7 visa.
-
The NIF (Número de Identificação Fiscal) is your Portuguese tax identification number. It is required for almost everything in Portugal — opening a bank account, signing a lease, applying for a visa, buying property, and paying taxes. It is your very first step when relocating.
-
Yes. Non-residents can obtain a NIF remotely through a fiscal representative. We handle the entire process on your behalf — you don't need to be in Portugal.
-
The required documents depend on whether you are an EU/EEA citizen or a non-EU national.
If you are an EU/EEA citizen you will need a valid passport or national ID card and proof of address from your home country.
If you are a non-EU national you will need a valid passport, proof of address from your home country, and a fiscal representative based in Portugal — we act as your fiscal representative as part of our NIF service, so you don't need to find one separately.
In both cases all documents must be valid and, if not in Portuguese or English, require a certified translation. Once we receive your documents, we handle the entire registration process on your behalf — no trip to Portugal required. description
-
